Three-time Ajax Downs Horse of the Year Country Boy 123, riding a two-race winning streak, tops the $21,000 finale of the Ajax Downs Sprint Series on Sept. 30.
Ruth Barbour's talented 6-year-old gelding had a summer vacation after winning the $52,200 Bradford Stakes at Indiana Grand in July and won his Ajax Downs return Sept. 1. That latest win was the 20th of his illustrious career.
The Sprint Series finale, at 250 yards, will be his final step to the important Alex Picov Memorial Championship and a re-match with arch-rival Had to Be Ivory on Oct. 14.
Country Boy 123, who set a track record in the Sprint series finale a year ago, will start from post four in the seven horse field with Ed Walton riding.
The Sprint Series finale is race six on the seven-race card with a first race post time of 12:55 p.m. Racing continues at Ajax for four more Mondays through Oct. 21.
