Families had a ton of fun and a lot of money was raised for the Ajax Pickering Hospital at the annual
Ajax Downs Family Fun Day on Sunday. The track was packed to the rafters for the popular event in which kids could race from the starting gate, meet exotic animals and get up close with the hard-working outrider ponies and their caretakers.
On the track the day belonged to Pontypool's Jason Pascoe and visiting American jockey Nakia Ramirez, who combined for a "natural hat trick", winning races five, six and seven on an exciting card of racing.
Pascoe saddled the three winners for three different owners: Heste Sport (Sweet Pagrana), Milena Kwiecien (AJ Chick in 15) and new owner Deb Strebig (Peepl R Krazi).
The three wins by Pascoe brings him to 22 wins for the season and he is now tied in an exciting trainer's racewith perennial leader Joe Tavares, who had a winner on the day.
Coming up at Ajax Downs is an on-line handicapping challenge that opens Friday, August 24 for racing on Sunday, August 26. This coming Sunday is also Sports Day with ticket giveaways for major sporting events.
